Our Team - Youth Camp
FurcoNZ takes many many people to run, both visible to our attendees and behind the scenes! This guide should hopefully indicate who the various people are and what they do.
This list will change and evolve regularly as the event grows nearer. If you're keen to help out, please get in touch - but don't be offended if we can't take you on yet, there's a lot involved in picking the right people!
Youth Camp Team
- MJ Drgn / Matt (He/Him) - FurcoNZ Director and organiser of the event, as well as our on-site first aider, security, and chef!
- Tsubaki / Richard - FurcoNZ Head of Communications & Activities, fursuit maker and design extraordinaire!
- Danny (He/Him) - FurcoNZ Head Medic, and youth activities team
- Haeviary (She/Them) - FurcoNZ Artist and artisan
- Sas (She/Them) - FurcoNZ Youth Chaperone
We'll all have name badges and feel free to come talk to any of us!
You can also get in touch through the Contact Us page or any of our social media channels ahead of the event, and we're happy to talk through any questions or concerns. We are also available to give you a phone call if easier as well.

FurcoNZ Committee
The FurcoNZ Event Committee consists of the HoDs (heads of department), who have overall responsibility for our events and make high level decisions. Many of these people are not present for our Youth Day and primarily work with our bigger events, however they provide oversight and review of our operations.
While they each have an area of focus they are generally aware of all major elements of the event.
FurcoNZ Director - MJ Drgn
MJ has been running FurcoNZ since 2022, however has been attending since 2011 and involved in aspects of the event since 2012. His main responsibilities are overall convention strategy and decision making, contract negotiations, financials, people management, and lots of little bits assisting the rest of the team!
MJ also looks after the Registration role, taking care of overall event ticketing and support, and the Web/IT role, taking care of the website and on-site IT requirements.
Communications & Activities - Tsubaki
Tsubaki has been an active member of FurcoNZ for many years. An attendee since 2016, hosting panels on and off since 2017, a dealer's den table since 2018, helping out unofficially in 2022 and formally joining the team for 2024. You may recognise him and his spouse Kepler from their stands at many events around New Zealand, where they sell their wares!
Security - Fenric
50% Fenric 50% fox
As head of Security, Fenric looks after safety and well-being of our attendees, and has responsibility over the Security, Medical, and Lifeguarding teams.
AV - Dashie
Dashie joined the FurcoNZ team in 2020 after being furry-adjacent for many years. Originally looking after AV and Security, this year he is focusing on AV and our technical operations.
AV (Audio Visual) covers all our on-site technical equipment, such as sound & lighting, as well as photographers, videographers, VR, livestreaming, and radio.
Logistics - Alurik
Having joined the fandom in 2019, attending their first FurcoNZ in 2020, and now officially with the team for 2024, this Wickerbeast has been quick to get involved with the 'behind the scenes'. Also referred to as Hoski, Alurik is normally found tinkering with his cars or making decorative chainmaille pieces.
Logistics covers everything that happens around the event itself - transport (of both attendees and equipment), storage of equipment and supplies, ordering of supplies, management of equipment, and any emergency resupplies or transport needs during the event.
Operations - Hakura
Joining our committee in 2024 after helping out over a number of years, Hakura leads our Operations - everything that occurs at the events to make things happen! They also support Registration and are heavily involved in the Web team.
Behind The Scenes
Many other volunteers have helped out behind the scenes with running this event, and while you may not see them on the day, their work is massively appreciated! Youth Camp has very limited room but there are dozens of wonderful volunteers that help keep things running for us.
