Accessibility - Kokako Lodge
FurcoNZ strongly believes in improving accessibility within the fandom and to events. As such, we have a variety of measures in place to support our attendees.
If you have support needs that are not covered here, please get in touch, and we will do our best to accommodate.
While we endeavour to support as much as possible, our limited budgets and non-profit nature make some accommodations impractical (such as funded carers or interpreters).
Carer Tickets
Free tickets for carers (those attending primarily to support someone with a disability or accessibility need) are available, please contact us for availability. Carers must accompany the attendee they have registered to look after for the vast majority of the event, otherwise they may be required to upgrade to a full ticket.
Mobility Issues
We have rooms available to suit those with mobility issues. However, this is an outdoor venue with uneven surfaces that may not be meet all needs. In addition, some activities do require either steps or mobility.
Please contact us in advance of registration opening, or as early as possible, if you require one of these rooms.
Parking
The majority of parking on site is accessible naturally, however there are dedicated spaces available if required. If you are unsure, ask a staff member upon arrival.
Vision
Due to the nature of the venue, the spaces between buildings have a number of rough surfaces and obstacles and may require assistance for guidance around the site. We are able to provide large print conbooks, schedules, and venue maps if requested in advance of the event. Braille options are not currently available.
Hearing
We do not currently have any volunteers for Youth Camp that speak New Zealand Sign Language. Unfortunately due to budget constraints we are unable to provide interpreters for any of our events, panels, or sessions however we can provide facilities to support anyone who wishes to bring their own interpreter or provide interpretation services.
Text versions of all important announcements and policies will be made available, including during the con.
Quiet Spaces / Sensory
If you require a quiet space please let a staff member know and we'll make somehwere available.
If you are having issues with noise or surroundings in cabins or rooms please let staff know and we will do our best to make things more comfortable.
