Accessibility - Christchurch Critters

FurcoNZ strongly believes in improving accessibility within the fandom and to events. As such, we have a variety of measures in place to support our attendees.

If you have support needs that are not covered here, please get in touch, and we will do our best to accommodate.

While we endeavour to support as much as possible, our limited budgets and non-profit nature make some accommodations impractical (such as funded carers or interpreters).

Carer Tickets

Due to the very limited space at this event, we are unfortunately not able to offer discounted carer tickets.

Mobility Issues

There is an accessible entrance at the rear of the building - let us know in advance if you require this and we will ensure someone is there to meet you. The front entrance does require three steps.

Access between the interior and exterior of the venue involves a small ramp. Some access ways within the main bar space may be tight, so we recommend contacting us in advance if a larger wheelchair access is required.

Parking

Street parking is the primary access to the venue which has limited accessibility. If you require specific close accessible parks please contact us to organise with the venue.

Vision

The venue will include low light, stage lighting effects, and other distracting elements that may reduce general visibility. We recommend having someone to support you if required. The outdoor spaces are more clearly and plainly lit.

Hearing

We do not currently have any volunteers for these events that speak New Zealand Sign Language. Unfortunately due to budget constraints we are unable to provide interpreters for any of our events, panels, or sessions however we can provide facilities to support anyone who wishes to bring their own interpreter or provide interpretation services.

Text versions of all important announcements and policies will be made available through our website and social media.

Quiet Spaces / Sensory

The venue has quite a lot of background noise, being a small bar venue, and with the addition of music and loud arcade machines.

The covered outdoor space at the rear of the venue is our designated quiet space however be aware this may be shared with others and is not guaranteed.
